Meet Duke. Duke was a rescue from The Humane Society in NC. Duke was born into a litter of others but spent the first year and a half of his life being bullied by his brothers and sisters. He would find escape upon this dog house pictured above.

We brought him into our family with loving arms; needing a companion for our girls, one of them with Special Needs. We all fell in love immediately! He fit right in and was so sensitive to the emotional feelings of our children while they were growing up. He knows when we are happy, scared, sad and sick and responds accordingly.

6 years ago, he got loose from his leash and disappeared from our life and despite all the searches, we couldn't find him anywhere. Our oldest daughter would drive around the neighborhoods every day after school with her window down in hopes he would catch her scent and return home. We were devastated!

Then...almost one month later, at 5 in the morning, I heard scratches and commotion at our front door. In a half sleep, I opened the door to see what was going on, and there he was. Duke had returned and his tail was wagging so hard and he was so excited. But, not as excited as we were to see our family member we thought we never would again.

He has not left our side since. Now, as our oldest Special Needs child ventures through life, Duke is always by her side. He sleeps with her and whimpers when she leaves for work. He is such a cuddle bug and a hot mess but we are so lucky to have him.
Duke is our family hero and an amazing therapy for us all! Duke rocks and is an amazing fur baby! ❤️❤️🐶🐶
