Kiwi was rehomed for at least the second time when his parents discovered they were having a baby. He is a banded White Fronted Amazon parrot and is 8 or 16, depending on whether the month or year comes first. He said, "Hi Abby" whenever we entered or left the room, so we thought a previous owner taught him to speak their name. One day, I was doing more reading to better serve this special bird. I read that they often learn to say their OWN name first. I put the article down, turned to him & said, "Hi Abby". His head swiveled around, his wings already beating, determination in his every movement. I almost hit the floor as he flew towards me, like a dart. He landed with a thud, under my chin where he clutched my shirt, shivering excitedly, finally understood.
