Pet's Story or Bio
We first saw Iggy/Widget on a tour to Bacalar Chico Nature Reserve with Capt Carl while vacationing in San Pedro. We had stopped there for lunch and this tiny puppy came toddling out from under the steps of a building. When I picked her up to love on her I noticed she was at the very thin and ill. As I was holding her, she looked into my eyes and whimpered as if to say, "Help me." However, thinking she must belong to someone and being on a schedule, I put her back down and we left. The next day we were due to fly home but I could not get the sick little puppy out of my mind. We contacted Capt Carl who, along with his wife Lynn, went back to the reserve and rescued her. They took her to SAGA where she stayed for several weeks under the good care of Ingrid until we could return to get her and bring her home to Texas. Lynn and the crew at SAGA called her Iggy, but we named her Widget which means "a discreet object of small size with no definite name, value, or function." Well, now has grown from six pounds to over 35 and she is of great value as a member of our family. She is a true success story and now lives a healthy, active life with us and our other pets.
