A little about me...
We went to meet Rocket the deaf cattle dog in April of 2020 during the height of the pandemic and with the prior experience of having adopted a deaf dog before, so we decided we were ready! Shortly later we were evacuated for months due to the czu fires and found ourselves moving between hotels and various accommodations with Rocket. Bed n Biscuits was kind enough to offer free housing for Rocket when we needed it while being displaced and we will always be grateful for that. We felt blessed that Rocket seemed to adjust to our displacement well since he was born deaf and therefore didn't have to hear all the noises and stresses living in often quite loud surroundings.
Since returning home later that year, Rocket has formed many friends who we've helped give advice and training help with for other deaf dogs in our community. Often there is fear and uncertainty for people considering adopting a deaf dog and we love to share our experiences about what adopting a deaf dog may look like as well as how fun it is to train using only hand signs as a way of communication in this loud, loud world.
Rocket knows many tricks and has better recall than any hearing pup we've had. He loves to hike, swim, paddleboard but his favorite activity is "Sandwich Friday" in which we meet up with local humans and pups at Seacliff beach and picnic.
Rocket was also born with a seizure condition that is being treated with medication so we don't expect him to live as long as most cattle dogs do, so we make sure every day is a great day for Rocket and there is no better town or community to do that in, than Santa Cruz County.
