Pet's Story or Bio
Baumer, a speckled tri-color Basset Hound came to live with me, sight-unseen, in the winter of 2010. He was gifted by my mom Sheryl, a long-time volunteer at Save A Pet. I had recently lost my dog, and she knew, as soon as he came to the shelter, that this sweet hound would fill the empty space in my heart and on my couch. He was between 2 and 3 years old at the time and was looking to take it as easy as possible for the rest of them. Now, almost 10 years of living the good life later, he still fills our hearts with joy and spreads love wherever his old paws wander on our 5 acres outside of Athens. Though he'd rather sleep peacefully for most of the day, he never complains when the tiny hands of my young sons pull his ears or pet him in not-quite-the-ideal way. I am grateful to Save A Pet and my mom every day because I get to love and be loved by my best friend. He may be short, but he never comes up short in our family. (This photo was taken many years ago during the lunch stop on a bike tour of farms in the North Georgia area; his chop-licking is surely in anticipation of tasting the pork we were serving from our pastured pigs.)
