Mateo’s Journey to His Forever Home

Mateo’s story is one of resilience, hope, and finding where you truly belong. His life began as “Buddy,” and as a five-month-old puppy, he was deeply loved by his elderly owner. But caring for an energetic young pup became too much, and with a heavy heart, she made the difficult decision to surrender him to Saving Great Animals.

After spending time with his first foster, Mateo went to a trial adoption, but it wasn’t quite the right fit. Luckily, he didn’t lose hope. With his tail still wagging and his goofy grin, once again, Mateo found himself in need of a forever family.

That’s when we had the opportunity to meet him. After an amazing meet-and-greet, we were completely in love. His soft fur, sweet eyes, and playful spirit stole our hearts. We knew he was special. But with a trip already planned, we faced a bittersweet decision. Mateo’s foster also had travel plans, so he temporarily went to another foster home. While we were away, we knew there was a chance another family might meet him and fall in love. Still, we believed that if Mateo was meant to be ours, he would be waiting for us when we returned.

And he was.

From the moment we welcomed Mateo into our lives, we knew he was home and that he was meant to be part of our family.

Mateo is endlessly playful and full of energy. His smart, vocal personality keeps us entertained and laughing, and his happiness is contagious! He loves to run, chase after toys, and make new furry friends. Children are his favorite playmates, and he starts every day with a tail-wagging excitement that reminds us how lucky we are.

He is our first rescue, but adopting Mateo has changed our lives in the best possible way. We can’t imagine our family without him, and we’re so grateful that his journey led him to us.

Mateo has found his forever home and we have found our perfect companion. We are so proud of our sweet Mateo.
