Pet's Story
Our 12 year old chihuahua Belle, adopted as a puppy from the El Cajon Humane Society, wanted to mother Quetzal (ket-zal) when we brought him home as a kitten from the Escondido Humane Society in May 2022. We fell so hard for him that we decided he needed a friend and went back to adopt Lenny a month later. They are 1 year old, bigger, and play rougher. Belle now keeps her distance, except when they have hunted up something new to play with. Quetzal, at nearly 13 lbs., is just over 3 feet long when he stretches out for his naps. You definitely know when Quetzal has landed in your lap. Surprise! Despite his size, he is a shy kitty in new situations or around strangers. Lenny, at 9 lbs., is the inquisitive and brave explorer, ready for scratches from anyone.
