Shira loves to play! She greets people and other dogs with a vocal serenade, full body roll and clacking sound of smiling teeth!

Pet's Story
Shira was rescued by the San Diego Humane Society, after being found on a freeway, when she was one year old. I was volunteering and immediately adopted her! She was so sweet and timid. The first month I had her, she would lay by the front door, barely barked, and didn't know how to play with toys.
After a few weeks, she finally became more comfortable with me and the new surroundings. She used to be afraid of the shower water running and now she will swim in the ocean! It took about three tries and then playing ball clicked and now ball is life!
She likes soft toys, running and playing with other dogs and people, and playing tug with rope. Shira has learned a few tricks, is an amazing protector, and interacts well with children.
As she got older, a little bigger and taller, I did a DNA test and she is part Belgian Malinois and Australian Shepherd. I researched the breeds to learn more about her needs. Although I read some challenging stories, she has been just fine in the apartment, we do mentally stimulating activities and get daily physical excercise, had a fantastic trainer, and had taken helpful SD Humane Society classes. We continue working on her trauma with motorcycles, and her glorious prey drive, avidly searching and chasing squirrels and gophers!
She has taught me patience, opened my heart, and reminds me to live in the moment. Shira has brought so much joy to my life and to others that know her! Follow her adventures on Instagram @socalshira
