Pet's QuirksAkira loves the beach! We often have to pick seaweed out of her wheelchair. When she gets excited she rolls around on her back chomping at the air!
Pet's StoryIn March 2024, 12-year-old Akira was surrendered to Frosted Faces Foundation, a senior dog rescue, after her owner could no longer care for her. At the time, she was unable to walk on her own. But Akira's journey was far from over.
Frosted Faces fitted her with a custom wheelchair, giving her the freedom to move again—and a whole new lease on life. Just a few months later, in July, she found her forever home through a loving foster family. Not only was she adopted, but she also became a certified therapy dog.
Today, Akira brings joy and comfort to countless children. She works daily in schools, supporting students from UTK through 8th grade with reading and emotional connection. She also makes regular visits to Rady Children’s Hospital and UCSD, spreading hope and healing wherever she goes.
Once Akira got her wheels, it became clear she had another passion—she absolutely loves the beach! Her name means “bright” in Japanese, and it couldn’t be more fitting. Her radiant spirit, resilience, and unwavering kindness continue to inspire everyone she meets.
Akira is living proof that it’s never too late to shine—and that life is truly what you make of it.
