Pet's Story or BioRob and I met Reggie on his first day on the adoption floor in July, 2014. We adopted him the next day. He weighed 12 pounds, had gray-brown-white short wiry fur and was about 7 months old. We asked why his last owner had returned him and the nice volunteer said the paper work listed behavioral problems. When we asked what they were, she said he had run away from young children and chased cats. Since we had neither and since he was cuddly, we felt confident. His biggest issue was his aggressive reactivity to other dogs, especially large ones. So we took him to puppy school and after 4 years his behavior improved and he could go to doggy daycare and small dog parks. He is a mischievous pup and his favorite game is to grab important items and then guard them. His photograph shows him with Rob’s bathing brush which he holds trumphantly. I had read that a Yorkshire terrier’s job was to guard the coalminers’s lunchbox from rodents. This game is Reggie’s version and he has a talent for grabbing prized items like reading glasses, TV remotes and shoes. He is almost 6 now and he currently brings Rob his shoe when he hears the word “out” for his last walk of the day. He is not friendly when leashed on a walk, but once inside our home, he is a friend forever. Who rescued whom?
