Pet's Seen=Saved Story
I first saw a photo of Mackey on One Love Pitbull Foundation's website. I was immediately drawn to Mack (at the shelter he was called Marvel) and his freckled ears and little underbite. I had 5 cats at the time and was concerned how a pitbull at the county shelter would be with them. Unfortunately, they were not able to confirm his temperament in that regard. So I didn't take immediate action.

Fast forward a bit of time and I'm getting kitty litter at PetCo and there is an adoption event going on in the parking lot. Guess who was there? It was this guy! I stopped to give him a pet and an ear rub and he just pushed his head into my chest and stayed standing like that for quite a while. I wanted to take him home then, as I'd been without dogs since my last two had passed 9 years prior and I really missed having dogs. But I had to consider the safety of my cats. So I left him there.

And I thought about him for 3 weeks straight.

It was just before Christmas when I called One Love Pitbull and they confirmed he was still available. I kept looking at his picture and just knew in my heart this dog and I were meant to be together.

I called my best friend and we went to the shelter and asked if we could walk him through the cat cages to gauge his reaction. A staff member obliged us and to my great delight, Mackey had zero interest in the cats at all! I signed the papers then and there and Mackey came home with me after being in the pound for 3.5 months. It was a very Merry Christmas for us both!

This photo of Mackey was taken not too long after he came home to me. He loves to lay all splayed out like a frog and because his front teeth don't meet his bottom ones, his little tongue always sticks out a bit when he relaxes. This image just makes me feel like he is feeling comfortable, safe, relaxed...at home.

Mackey is now 73lbs and just the most chill guy ever. He's never bothered the cats, was already house trained, uses a doggy door and doesn't chew anything that isn't his. He did need to work with a trainer to learn to walk nicely on a leash - which he does now. Mack loves a car ride, couch snuggles and carrots!

I love this dog with all my heart. I have had other pets and currently have other pets...and sometimes one is just special. I am so grateful for the first image that connected me to Mackey and only hope that all the pets in all the shelters find their forever homes as Mackey has with me.
