Heart's story starts like many others, as an adorable puppy with five brothers and sisters born in a rural shelter in Virginia. She was the runt of the litter, but her personality was bigger than life. As Heart got older she began to struggle to keep food down and gain weight. She was eventually diagnosed with Megaesophagus (ME) at three months old. ME is a lack of muscle motility in the esophagus, and makes it nearly impossible for food to make it to the stomach without assistance. Luckily the shelter was able to raise enough money to have a Bailey Chair made for her so that she could sit upright during feedings, allowing gravity to move her food. Heart soon caught the eye of a long-time volunteer who had the time and ability to give Heart the one-on-one care she so desperately needed, in foster.

Foster life has been great for Heart, she's gaining weight and has stayed healthy and happy. She and her foster mom do what they can to spread the word about ME and help people understand that, while it can be daunting, animals can still live a normal, happy life with this diagnosis. She has active Facebook and Instagram accounts that show her daily life, including the ups and downs of ME. Her posts allow people a look into her life and it's their hope that SEEING Heart do well will help SAVE others with Megaesophagus.
