Dog's Story or Bio
We happened to be just looking through the adoptable pets and saw Max’s photo. His blue eyes staring off in the distance totally captured us. We wanted to meet this guy! I sent in a request and within an hour Tim called me and gave us some info on Max and how Max’s story started and how he came to Shadow Husky Rescue.
Max had 2 luxating patella’s and would require surgery. He had already had one surgery complete and was cleared and just finished the surgery on the other side and was pending his clearance for that side. As an owner you always want to make sure you can handle any conditions your pets might have, we thought…can we do this? After researching and talking we decided yes, we could and wanted to give a home to an animal that only really knew life in the shelter and life at the vet clinic-and he was only 1!
We met Max on April 18th, 2020, and oh boy the second we met him we knew he was home! He was big and goofy and singing in his sweet husky voice! Max befriended our 2.5-year old girl Husky, Dakota, and the two were so quick to play together. We had to try and separate them to keep Max calm. But we knew that they were great together!
Within the next couple of weeks, we fell in love with Max, who we now call Dozer as our youngest felt that he should be allowed to name him. When we took Max aka Dozer for his re-check, we were told that he would need yet another surgery, we were sad and worried that he would have to have yet another surgery. With a sad heart my husband left him at the office to undergo his procedure.
Shadow Husky Rescue immediately called us and let us know that they had a donor for the procedure. I cannot say how awesome this rescue is.
In the days after his procedure, my husband slept downstairs for 2 weeks to care for what was now his dog, Dozer, and make sure that he stayed calm and allow him the time to heal. The next coming weeks after that we tried to keep Dozer as quiet as possible, love on him, and hope that the procedure was successful. Our 14-year old would carry him up the stairs each evening until we could get the ok for Dozer to climb stairs.
In his 6 weeks follow up the doctor and staff happily came out of the office and let us know that the procedure was successful!!!
Max-aka-Dozer is truly a huge part of our family. Nothing warms our hearts more than when we get home to see him bounding down the hallway to say hello and I missed you! We love when he looks at you upside down it just melts us!! He is our handsome man and we cannot thank Shadow Husky Rescue enough for giving us this wonderful boy!!
