Jet is my soul's companion. Many years ago, I went to a shelter in Spokane, WA looking for an adult tuxedo cat and found a cage with a description for a black & white cat. What the cage held was a petite, shiny black, 6-month-old kitten with maybe 12 white hairs on her chest. She wasn't comfortable being held but she climbed on my shoulder and sat purring contentedly. We've been together a long time (17.5 years) and she traveled with me along the West Coast when I was a traveling nurse. Her slightly grumpy nature matches mine and, at times, her peridot-green eyes speak to me better than words. However, she can be *quite* vocal if I'm late with feeding time. Nowadays, she has a few more white hairs showing in her glossy black coat, moves a bit slower (who doesn't?), and mostly sleeps during the day but her rusty-muffler-purr is as strong as ever.
