Pet's Common Name and/or Species Name
Southwestern Speckled Rattlesnake (Crotalus pyrrhus)

A little about me...
A master of camouflage, blending seamlessly into its rugged desert habitats, this particular specimen, found among ancient lava flows, showcases an incredible adaptation—its mottled, dark coloration mirrors the volcanic rock, blending into its habitat beautifully.

Native to the arid regions of the southwestern United States and northern Mexico, its coloration varies widely depending on the local environment, ranging from pinks to oranges to white to deep blacks, allowing it to thrive in diverse terrains. The speckled rattlesnake is shy by nature, relying on its cryptic appearance and a quiet retreat to avoid confrontation, though venomous and should be treated with respect.

This snake is often active during the cooler hours of dawn and dusk, gliding silently across rocky outcrops in search of rodents, lizards, and birds. The lava-adapted individuals, like the one pictured, are a testament to the rattlesnake's evolutionary finesse, embodying the resilience and beauty of life in even the harshest landscapes.
