Annabel was the first of our three Dachshund rescues. We adopted her from NOLA Dachshund Rescue in New Orleans in 2011. She was "found" wandering on a roadside and dumped in a shelter - heart worm positive, with evidence of a recent and obviously not first litter. Through the kindness of the NOLA rescue, she was successfully treated, and we were chosen to be her new family. She was flown up to New England - pychologically fragile on arrival, she has come a long way in learning to trust people, and has the exalted position of Alpha in the dachshund household. Her fur has grown back to the point that we now call her our "fluffernutter", for obvious reasons ;) Animal rescue is an affair of the heart for us - a most noble cause, and we are heartened by the recognition it has now begun to receive.
