How did you come to adopt your rescue animal and how does your pet bring joy to your life?
In May of 2017, I lost my Chihuahua, Peppy to congestive heart failure. He was my constant companion, resting in his bed by my desk as I worked and sleeping in the passenger seat when I traveled to visit out-of-town family members. His passing left a terrible hole in my life. Peppy was the 3rd dog that I had adopted from a shelter or rescue organization, so I started to visit rescue organization websites in hopes of finding a new companion. In July, I visited the Southside Animal Shelter to drop off supplies and take a peek at the dogs available for adoption. I was introduced to Scrappy and told of his journey to a new home. He had been surrendered to the city shelter by his owner, severely underweight and suffering from pneumonia. In addition, x-rays showed he had swallowed a needle, which was still visible in his liver. He was rescued from the city shelter and nursed back to health by the caring staff at the Southside Animal Shelter. I adopted Scrappy that day and took him home with me. He has become my constant companion as I work at the computer and travel to visit family. He is now healthy and happy. He loves to run, sprinting back and forth across the backyard, and curl up in my lap as I watch television. Although I still miss Peppy, I am so glad I found Scrappy.
