Atlas is a Husky/ German shepard mix that we adopted from the SPCA back in 2016 when he was just 2 months old. His mom and dad came into the SPCA because they were found running loose. Unbenounst to the staff his mom was pregnant and the story is that they came in one morning to a litter of puppies! We had just lost our fur baby Zeus a few months back and weren’t exactly looking for a new addition. But, the second I saw the SPCA Facebook posting about 4 Husky/German Shepard puppies something inside of me told me that I needed to get down there IMMEDIATLEY. My husband and I were the second ones to arrive. The first couple there had already fell in love with one so they handed us the other pups. Atlas was the first one in my arms and to say it was love at first sight would be an understatement. That little puppy was an angel sent from heaven and there was no way I was leaving without him. A few signatures later we are taking home the most perfect puppy. Choosing his name was difficult. He needed a strong name. A name to match and carry his spirit. So that entire night we sat there pondering different names, googling their meaning, then trying to call him by that name. But, the one that was unmistakably made for him, we knew right away when I said it out loud from the list of names I was looking at. ATLAS. My husband perked up and said, “Atlas? Atlas?! Yes, Atlas!” And what a more perfect name then the God who holds the weight of the world on his shoulders. For that is how he had entered our life. In a time of grief and mourning he had very big shoes to fill. But our belief is that Zeus sent him to heal us. And that is exactly what he has done. His spirit has brought about an abundance of love and light. He beams with unconditional affection and overflows our life with laughter. He explodes our hearts with his playfulness and devotion. He has our entire heart and we, his world.
