Pet's Story or Bio
Fiona (now Fallon) was adopted from Homeward Bound Golden Retriever Rescue. She was released to them from a breeder in another part of the state. She was afraid of human contact as having lived in a cage for 8 years giving birth to litter after litter. Her front teeth were infected and ground to stumps from trying to get out. She was horribly underweight and had a severe skin disease. Homeward Bound took her in, she began to eat properly, she went to the vet and dentist and was on her way to physical recovery.
Emotional recovery has taken some patience on Fallon’s part as well as our own. We allowed her the run of the house, which for her meant hiding on a pet bed in the master bedroom. We asked guests to not force a visit and to speak in a soothing voice. We waited, watched, prayed and gently moved into her world and her into ours. Her new sister, Neeka was a huge part of her recovery. She had many firsts, some good and some sad. The first time her tail wagged she jumped and ran thinking someone was behind her. The first time she followed me down the hall and lay by my chair was a huge victory😊. Now when times are right she chases the ball, plays a little with her sister dog, Neeka, teases me with hid the ball or toy, and is my constant companion. She also visits with other dogs at the open space dog park in Pacific Grove and allows others to pet her and love her. She still has set backs and falls to the ground shaking if something unexpected happens, like a stranger that doesn’t know her story just reaches out like you would to a typical dog at the park.
We are blessed that Homeward Bound trusted us with this precious soul. Not a day goes by that I don’t thank my lucky stars for us finding each other.
