Pet's Story or Bio
We found these sweet kittens and their brother JohnBoy in our garden 3 years ago, almost to the day. At two weeks old, they had been abandoned by their mom, who was probably eaten by a coyote in our rural neighborhood. Sunny (the calico) had a broken paw. All of them had infected fly bites on their bellies. My husband and I fed them antibiotics and nursed them 5 times a day with goat milk for weeks with bottles until they somehow miraculously transitioned to solid food. JohnBoy went to a friend; Sunshine and Clark Kent stayed with us. Clark could play fetch, which he trained us to do. He was a super smart cat. Tragically, we lost him in October 2020 to cystitis, a condition particularly common in male cats, that we had never heard of. There are ways to prevent cystitis and every cat owner should be aware of this condition. We were devastated to lose Clark and it took his sister a while to adjust to being an only cat. But locked down for COVID, the three of us have bonded in an amazing way. We think Sunny is trying to fill Clark's place as the ultra-affectionate cat. She snuggles with us every morning and is the sweetest, most communicative cat you can imagine. She is a treasure and we are proud to enter her in this year's calendar photo contest.
