Pet's Story or Bio
Taylor is a 7-year-old male that was found abandoned in San Antonio’s large central park by a volunteer caretaker. Taylor was one of two black kittens (siblings for sure) that were most certainly abandoned in the park and first noticed by volunteers several days before capture. Taylor’s brother was captured first but sadly had several serious health issues and had to be put down. It can be the case that people will abandon ill animals rather than pay for vetting or euthanasia.
This kitten was brought to us immediately after capture with virtually no hair and not much meat on his bones. We thought he was feral but fortunately held off from simply fixing him and returning him to the park (protocol for a feral cat from the park- trap, neuter, return). Fortunately, we kept him to nurse him back to health although his recovery was constantly in doubt for some time. After much love and many trips to the vet, it turned out he was simply almost scared to death by his experience and not feral at all. According to the vet his hair loss was not indicative of a medical condition, it was more likely stress related.
For a couple of years, we were unsure of his health as he exhibited a low grade fever the vets couldn’t diagnose, so we decided to keep him and devote ourselves to his recuperation. He has been with us for 7 years now and has learned to travel back and forth between Texas and our summer home here in Carmel. Taylor is a perfect example of a “good cat”, playful, social and cuddly – and handsome too, his coat came back beautifully! He refuses to venture outside in Texas but loves to sun himself on our deck overlooking the ocean here in Carmel. Guess you can add “highly intelligent” to his resume.
