Pet's Story or Bio
We found Noel wandering in Brackenridge Park Texas, San Antonio while caretaking a number of cat colonies there (I helped to found that parks first conservancy and cat rescue program). The cat had never seen it before. It was nervous and apprehensive and could not be approached. We were there to feed but had a trap in the car so I set one out, not expecting to be successful, it’s usually not that easy. Sure enough in short order we had the cat. We took it home and placed it in a small cage to observe it. It did not appear social and we nickname it “Kung Fu Panda” because it swatted at us with any attempt to social with it.
We kept him in a large outdoor enclosure and one night during feeding, he escaped, I assumed never to be seen again. The next morning, I got up and looked out the window and found the cat back in the enclosure! Great decision by him because I had already clipped his ear and was preparing to take him back to the Park.
Anticipating this cat would eventually be returned to the park, I took it to our local Humane Society, had him neutered and ear tipped. I felt bad about the ear-clip because he had beautiful tufts at the tips. During convalescence from his surgery, something changed and he decided he liked us. Maybe he knew he was lucky after all.
Noel was a great kitty, with us for 5 years until his sudden passing from a rare disease earlier this year. He accepted our summer trips to Carmel and was addicted to sunning himself on our deck overlooking the ocean. He became a great friend to us and our other cats as well. We all miss him.
