Pet's Story or Bio
*In Memoriam*
Coco was adopted from the Monterey SPCA in 2018 when she was 12 years old. She was technically a senior when we got her, but she acted like a puppy from the moment she ran out of the SPCA’s doors into our car. She quickly became a superstar in our neighborhood, with many human, dog, and cat friends, including multiple doggy boyfriends. She went on 5 walks a day and always decided the way to go- she would stop at every corner, sniff the air to see which direction she smelled her friends, and take off that way once she decided. She was the queen of the house, having four beds in the living room alone, and two couches that she got first choice of as well. She was only 20 lbs., but she would hog entire queen-sized beds during the night. She used to dig in the garden box in the backyard and burst into the house through her doggy door as if she was innocent, but her usually blonde paws would give her away because they would be covered in dirt! We had to keep one half of the garden box without any plants in it, just so she could dig in there and hang out in the box. Coco was more food motivated than any dog I have ever seen- she knew the sound of the egg carton opening and would stalk the oven if salmon was baking. Her favorite foods were roasted salmon (no spices), pumpkin purée, chicken and yogurt, and her one scrambled eggie that she would get every Saturday morning. Even though Coco was a senior, she loved to come on adventures with us. She played in the snow at Christmastime in Oregon, she went on hikes and to the lake in Tahoe, she wandered around downtown San Luis Obispo, sat in a giant wooden clog in Solvang, explored the rose garden in LA, visited the beach in Malibu, and had many trips to San Francisco. She loved to wander around the neighborhoods in SF, and visit the pet store on Ocean Ave where the owner would give her free samples of freeze-dried salmon. On her last trip to SF, she watched the sunset over the ocean from Fort Funston. She had countless adventures in the Monterey area too- she loved to sniff things at Del Monte and Carmel beaches, loved to walk in PG, and was a regular at Asilomar beach where this photo was taken. We celebrated her 17th birthday party at Asilomar in January, and she got lots of salmon and pumpkin treats. Sadly, Coco became ill in March and passed away a few weeks later, but she still acted like a puppy until a few weeks before she passed away. We love her so much and know there are so many other people who loved her too. She was the most incredible dog on the planet and we think about her everyday. We love you Coco!
