Mabel is a 2 year old Lab/Retriever mix. Mabel doesn’t look like your average Lab or Retriever. Her parents like to think she is also mixed with Basset Hound, considering her shorter than normal legs, that give her the most adorable appearance.

In 2021, Her parents were looking to get their first dog together and saw fostering as a good way to see if they would be able to handle it. One day her mom was scrolling through the SPCA dog list and came across sweet Mabel, who was found as a stray in Dallas, and was brought in to be a “foster to adopt”, due to her having heartworms. As soon as her mom saw her she knew she was the one. At first Mabel was very shy, liked to be alone most the time, and didn’t play, nor even knew what a dog bed was! But the longer she lived with her parents the more she opened up! When Mabel came available for adoption, her parents knew they couldn’t see her with any one else.

Mabel was officially adopted by her foster parents in January 2022. Today, 10 months later, Mabel has made so much progress. She loves to cuddle, go for walks, play tag with her parents, and even loves pets from strangers, and can’t forget LOVES napping in her bed!!! Mabel continues to thrive in her new home, and is finally learning how it feels to be loved by humans.
