Pet's Story or Bio
My first pet, Tyger was adopted from SPCA of Texas. She had been in and out of the shelter all her life, adopted and then returned – for no fault of her own. I wasn’t thinking about getting a dog and the last time I had a pet was in my childhood. It was a chilly winter Saturday morning and I didn’t feel like getting up so instead, I turned on the tube. Local news was on and it appeared they were doing a segment on local animal shelter featuring pets that were labeled “difficult to adopt.” Some due to age, some had behavioral issues, others – who knows why…..After watching for a minute or two, Tyger appeared. She was older, seemed lifeless and indifferent. She had this blank, distant stare as if she’d given up on life. She was 5 and “depressed” doesn’t even describe her demeanor.
I’m not sure why, but I instantly connected to her. My heart started beating faster and I couldn’t keep my eyes off of her – I knew she needed out! So, that afternoon my husband and I picked her up and brought her to her forever home.
We had some challenges and heartbreaks at first. She was so sad and unwilling to try to live again. But, with time, love and lots of patience she finally snapped out of the depression and came to life. She was the “furry love of my life” and when she passed six years later a piece of my heart died too…. I will always remember her and can only hope that one day our paths will cross again.
