Journey to Adulthood is a youth ministry curriculum for 6
th - 12
th graders followed by many Episcopal churches. Adult leaders and youth explore what it means to be an adult through active discussion of the Bible and other readings, prayer, ritual, service ministries, fun, and fellowship. They acknowledge the responsibilities as well as the privileges that accompany the gifts of manhood or womanhood. Together they create a Christian community to provide support during the transition from childhood to adulthood.
The program consists of three two-year segments. The middle segment is
J2A. In J2A, (Grades 9-10) teens focus on the importance of Christian community as they develop critical thinking and other skills they will need in adulthood. The end of J2A is marked with a spiritual pilgrimage, a trip to seek God in an unknown place, usually a place of great natural wonder or spiritual significance. The pilgrimage shapes them as Christians as they are led to look for God and own their faith in a new way. It brings them closer as they navigate unusual circumstances together.
The teens are responsible for earning the money needed for their pilgrimage through individual efforts, parental contributions and group fundraising like this contest. Your support is GREATLY appreciated!
Saint Andrew's is a large, active, Episcopal parish located in and serving State College, the Pennsylvania State University community, and surrounding areas of central Pennsylvania. Worship is prayer-book centered in the tradition of the Anglican Communion. As one parishioner describes it, "
Saint Andrew's manifests many of the best traits of the Episcopal Church — a strong tradition of worship, a vital education program, an active youth ministry and a long history of community service."
Outside the walls of the church, St. Andrew's participates fully in the life of our community, opening our doors to others, including a weekly soup kitchen, numerous 12-step groups, concert performances, art exhibits and fundraisers.
In the words of our Mission Statement,
we are a community of faith seeking to "promote charity, which is the chief of Christian graces," and we welcome all persons, regardless of race, ethnic background, gender identity, sexual orientation, capability or circumstances of life. We
thank you for your support of our J2A youth and welcome you to join us for worship or fellowship whenever the opportunity may arise.
