Poppy was initially Hopalong at St. Hubert’s. With the help of volunteer Maddy Zijdel’s encouragement, I took Hopalong home and officially adopted her on Valentine’s Day 2024. She is the most remarkable gift I could have received. Every day she makes my day brighter just by existing. She may only have 3 legs, but she enjoys life with the zeal of three hearts. Because of her love I have my first tattoo with 3 poppies in different stages of growth, all coming together. The 3 represents the number of legs she has, yes, but also so many other things, including the number of words in I love you. I named her Poppy because poppies may look fragile, but they are anything but, since they are resilient and can grow wherever they are, despite turmoil or hardship. That is Poppy, beautifully reveling in it all.
