Pet's Story or Bio
We found Cookie abandoned in the streets of Tacoma, just laying in the grassy area between the sidewalk and the street with a collar and six foot lead still on her. She looked like she was just waiting for someone to come along and pick her up, and it was apparent she had recently finished weaning a batch of puppies. We certainly couldn't leave her, so we scooped her up and brought her to the Humane Society of Tacoma & Pierce Co. They determined she was chipped, and from that we knew her name was Cookie. The owner was contacted but - not surprisingly - never picked her up. His loss - our gain!

After bringing her in to the Humane Society, it was determined she needed CCL surgery on both knees - an expensive procedure to say the least! Incredibly, the Human Society had her double TPLO surgery performed, and she was spayed as well. I'm so glad I have given money to the Human Society all these years! What an amazing group of incredibly caring people!!

We weren't looking for a third dog, but we couldn't stop thinking about Cookie. When her rehabilitation foster situation fell through, we were contacted and asked if we would consider fostering her ourselves. We had gone back to the Human Society several times to look in on Cookie, and we had tentatively expressed interest in adopting her so they probably figured we were a soft touch! :) I was working from home at the time due to Covid, so it seemed like the stars were aligning for Miss Cookie.

We were captivated by her from the start but only fell more in love with her and her incredible personality after bringing her home. After the foster period was over and her rehabilitation was complete, we officially adopted her. She joined her fellow fur siblings - Lillian the greyhound, Hope the golden retriever, and Cooper the alley kitty - and seems to have completely forgotten whatever traumatic life she may have had previously. How someone could just discard her - like a piece of garbage - breaks our hearts. But Cookie found a happy ending, as she will know nothing but love, warmth, soft beds, and treats for the rest of her life.
