Tattoo Story
My husband was dealing with pancreatic cancer. Neither of us had a tattoo. One evening when we sat in bed talking he suddenly said "Should we get tattoos?" I said "sure what should we get?"
He said "You love horses, and I love donkeys, so it should be a mule", I replied "You're stubborn as a mule, so it's perfect!".
We went on to agree that it also had to have the number 5, it has been my lucky number since I was 5 years old and won a prize on the Uncle Bob show by guessing a number between 1 and 10, and guessed 5. When we were dating I told Phil the story and he asked if he could also have 5 as his lucky number, since he didn't have one.
Phil died on April 28th 2016. We had not had time to get our tattoos.
About 6 months later, I decided to get our tattoo, in honor of him, and us. My
granddaughter Bridgette, who was 11 at the time, drew the mule, she named the mule Lulu, which was cool because that was Phils Moms nickname (Bridgette was not aware of this, so it seemed serendipitous to me).
I found a young woman who did watercolor tattoos , and got our tattoo on my left ribcage. The artist hid our names in the mane! It took over 2 hours, I was sore, but happy. It is my only tattoo and I love the story of it.
