Your Pet's Rescue Story
Like many abandoned Pyrs, Schatzi was poorly fed and neglected. Her immune system was compromised, which allowed sarcoptic mange mites to multiply and flourish under her skin. When we picked her up at the shelter to foster, she smelled horrible from the infection and was pathetically thin with huge patches of hairless raw red skin. We only planned to foster her till she was well. But as she healed, Schatzi's loving spirit and gentle strength won our hearts... She became our 3rd TGPR "foster failure". Her name means "sweetheart" in German, and she is surely that. But this gorgeous girl could also be a poster Pyr for "before and after" mange. Many people do not realize how quickly inexpensive modern medicine kills the parasites that drive dogs with mange to incessant scratching. We are so grateful for the lessons that Schatzi has taught us about love and patience.
