Your Pet's Rescue Story
Robbie was pulled from the San Antonio shelter by TGPR just before he was scheduled to ship out to a Vermont Bulldog rescue. The staff wanted us to meet him and brought him into the shelter office. He had never been allowed inside at his original home and he was really afraid. But the whole time, his tail wagged. He stole our hearts without even trying. The San Antonio Coordinator took him home, fostered him, and eventually adopted him. At first, seven-year-old Robbie was malnourished and had heartworm disease. He was already coughing from the illness. The vet agreed that “slow kill” would be best for him and months later, he got his “HW Negative” test result. Robbie was a true gentle giant who made everyone happy. He had a crooked little smile and was missing his bottom teeth (probably from being hit as young dog). He loved to go on the morning walk in the woods with his 3 Pyr brothers and sisters. As he got older, he would pick a grassy spot to wait for the family to circle back to him to go home. He never got over his reluctance to come inside, preferring to be outside in all weather, except rain. In the winter, his family piled blankets on a Kuranda bed on the covered porch and then covered him up at bedtime like a little kid. One day Robbie’s giant heart just gave out, and he crossed the Rainbow Bridge. It was his family’s good luck to share adventures with this sweet Great Pyrenees for four happy years.
