Your Pet's Rescue Story
Ewan was living outside near a south side SA market. His life changed on 7/24/23 when Mercy saw him limping and decided to intervene. Mercy and her neighbors stayed with him all night at a dog park in her apartment complex until her friends, Leslie and Gary with TGPR, could retrieve him. Dr. Owens, City Vet, evaluated his leg. Dr. Owens determined he was approximately 6 years old with advanced bone cancer and prescribed pain meds and discussed euthanizing him within the next week. This young boy was immediately given a name, Ewan (yoo-uhn), meaning young, brave warrior. We later learned in Irish names, this means “God's gift.” Ewan was officially adopted and has been a pyrfect family member. He quickly climbed into his soft bed. He welcomes body and belly rubs, resulting in a smile and display of pure enjoyment with his teeth showing. Although he does not appear to be in pain (only when walking) that could change quickly. So far, he has not whimpered or barked at all! Ewan is smart and already responds to his name. He is observant, sensitive, very calm and brave! This handsome boy is under weight for his long legs so he receives a healthy diet of everything! Steak, eggs and kibble for breakfast, special evening snacks like ice cream. It is heartwarming to see Ewan enjoy the air blowing on his face during a car ride to get a puppucino. Ewan knows he is home, and he is loved. His life may be robbed of time, but his life story touched each of us. Ewan is God’s gift to us. Remember Ewan, and continue to be a beacon of love and hope to other GPs in Ewan's name.
