Pet personality / Story of adoption / Why is your pet special? We entered this photo because it is one of our local animal shelter directors favorite photos and it actually won the cover of the 2014 Cats & Dogs of McCook calendar.
We know the name of one kitten in the bowl - Casper! He is the adorable white kitten (like Casper the friendly ghost). Casper would be all grown by now and was adopted by a local family from the shelter.
We do not know a lot about the other kittens fate other than they all would eventually have found homes because of the love, attention and care of the shelter in McCook. This is a typical scenario /image for the shelter staff and speaks volumes to the amazing job the McCook Humane Society leaders, team members, and volunteers provide for our community.
The McCook Humane Society is a no kill shelter. Roughly 50-75 cats and dogs are taken in by the shelter each month. The expense of housing the animals & promoting their availability costs roughly $100.00 per animal, until they are adopted by new owners providing a forever loving home.
The shelter survives solely on the involvement and contributions of the southwest, NE and northwest, KS community. It is why community donations of goods and services, cash donations and business sponsorship's, not for profit grants and in-kind donations, fundraising projects like this pet photo contest and calendars are ALL so vital to the success of the shelter.
This adorable bowl of kittens is a reminder that the shelter plays a magnificent role of "matchmaker" changing lives for both the animals AND the families who adopt them. We like to say in the McCook Cat Pack, "Who Saved Who?"
