Visitors and volunteers are always welcome at the McCook Humane Society at 100 South Street, McCook, Nebraska.

And up until a few years ago, you would have been greeted by two tabby cats - Jackson and Lionel whom we adopted as our “official shelter cats.” And while Lionel is still with us at the shelter hosting guests today, we lost Jackson a few year back & we miss him very much!

Jackson was born at the shelter. His mother and siblings were all adopted but he wasn't, so he joined our shelter staff right away and warmed up immediately hitting it off with his future partner Lionel. The two of them had their own room and facilities and were living the good life, for many many good years as "Kings of the Shelter."

We will never forget Jackson whom passed away a few years ago. He had a profound impact with his life on our shelter crew, visitors, and the other shelter animals awaiting their loving forever homes.
