Pet personality / Story of adoption / Why is your pet special?Gatsby was adopted and it didn’t take him long to act like he belonged. He immediately warmed up to us and our children. The Persian breed is generally quiet, sweet, used to being pampered. They enjoy the comfort of sitting on a lap “confident” it is their rightful place. Gatsby is petted by only those who he has discerned to be smart enough to recognize his superior qualities and striking good looks. Gatsby looks grumpy yes, but he has a warm side and enjoys his life in our home. I'm not sure who enjoys this situation more, "he with us" or "us with him," because we cannot imagine our home without him.
According to the Cat Fanciers Association, the history of the Persian cat dates back to Mesopotamia (formerly known as Persia) now modern day Iran. They are one of the oldest cat breeds and because of their beautiful long luxurious fur some say owning a Persian cat was like owning a living work of art.
In the US they also became the new cat favorite edging out the longhaired Maine Coon cat, which was Americas sweetheart up until the late 19th century. According to the Cat Fanciers Association, In little more than a century since, the Persian has become the most beloved cat breed in the world, prized for its beautiful appearance and sweet personality.
While Persians are affectionate they are discriminating and reserve their attention for family members and those few guests whom they feel they can trust. And that fits our Gatsby’s personality purrfectly.
