Pet personality / Story of adoption / Why is your pet special? My father, a Vietnam vet and widower of 10 years now, sought for campanionship after the passing of his German shorthair pointer Sammy. He had Sammy for 11 years, he said he wouldn't own another dog after parting with her. But as the year passed by he realized there is no other companionship like that of a dog. An avid reader of the McCook Gazette, he always perused the fearured pets section. Many dogs passed through the pages of the Gazette, but on one particular day he gazed upon a dog that he instantly new was to be the last dog he owned. Kay! A beautiful dark-eyed Belgium Shepard. He called the McCook Humaine Society on Friday and told them he'd be in to pick her up on Monday. That Monday Kay was adopted into our family! He rescued her and she rescued him. I've seen a complete turn around in my father-a pep in his step and a new lease on life! He doesn't go anywhere without her. She is a brilliant dog, super alert and completely loyal to him. A "guardian" dog in every meaning of the word. We were all impressed to see that Kay has a rare quality we've never witnessed in all the animals we've owned...she WATCHES tv!!! She even huffs and puffs when you change the channel or pause what she's watching. She's only 3 years old but there isn't much she doesn't already know. Wherever she came from, whatever her past was....she is in good hands now and her personality is being revealed everyday!
