Why is Your Pet "Rescued (or Stray) and Unforgettable"?
These are my Caribbean “island girls”, Ginger and Honey.
Their unforgettable journey began about 1ten years ago-Thanksgiving week 2012, when they were dumped at the “pound” in St. Martin because their family “had too many dogs”. An angel in St. Martin has a shelter there, and rescued them that week.
Several months later, my husband and I were on vacation and we met Ginger and Honey while helping out at the shelter. In April 2013, we flew them to the U.S. to foster them and find their forever home.
The girls are a bonded pair and I promised that they would not be separated. It took some time before they were ready for adoption; they had medical issues and were scared of most things, due to their tough life on the island.
It wasn’t easy to find a family who would understand what they had been through and have patience with their issues (Ginger required back surgery in July 2013 so she cannot use steps, and Honey was abused, so she is afraid of people who move quickly).
But, despite their hardships, Ginger and Honey are very sweet dogs. While staying with us, they both became friends with our dog Tyler. As the months passed, I realized that they had found their forever home–with us, and that WE are their family.
Ginger and Honey are truly amazing and have taught me patience, resiliency, and that if you have trust and are loved, the world is a good place.
