Why is Your Pet "Rescued (or Stray) and Unforgettable"?
Serena and Sophie joined my family in February 2006, shortly after my boxer, Boris, crossed the Rainbow Bridge. They have lived in my home ever since.

Just 10 months old when I adopted them, they were the offspring of a feral cat. They had started their lives in the garage of one of the dedicated volunteers at Hope for the Animals, the rescue that my parents ran. After a short while, they were taken to the vet, vaccinated and spayed, and were awaiting adoption in the cat room at PetSmart.

As sisters, their bond was unmistakable. They ate together, often slept together, groomed each other, and occasionally-as sisters do-would get into a bit of a "catfight".

They had distinctive personalities, however. Serena is the lover. She is sweet and affectionate, and loves to climb onto my lap or push away the book I am reading to snuggle with me on my bed. Serena is also very shy; visitors will rarely, if ever, see her.

Sophie was the bold cat, who was a bit more independent. She would come and sit beside me, but never came on to my lap. Sophie decided how much she cared to be petted, and would swat me if I crossed that line. She loved the two big dogs that I later adopted: Lucky Duck, then Davi. I have photos of her lying next to Davi in his bed (which wasn't his idea of a good time!). And, after some initial skittishness, she would come downstairs to greet visitors.

One thing both Sophie and Serena had in common, though, was that I wasn't able to pick them up! That part of them remained feral.

Sadly, Sophie recently passed away. I was blessed to have them both for sixteen-and-a-half years! And, God willing, Serena will be with me for quite a while to come.
