Libby's "official" name is Tyava's Liberty Belle, CGC, THD. She is a 4-year-old Yorkie, and we have been a therapy team for three years. We currently visit at Wolfson Children's Hospital, Mayo Clinic & Taylor Residences. On one Wolfson visit, the teenage cancer patient from China spoke no English, and I spoke no Mandarin. Libby snuggled down next to the girl in bed. As I watched them, Libby was looking up at the girl, and the young girl was smiling, looking at Libby as she was petting her. And I realized no language barrier existed between them. They were speaking the international language of love.
