We rescued JD when he was about 3 months old. He was the sweetest tiniest little Pitt bull I'd ever seen. He had so much puppy skin, he finally grew into it all and at full size, weighed in at 120 lbs and stood waist high!! He loved his kitties and other dogs, he was so very sweet, just about the best dog in the whole world. Until I met him, I was more of a cat person, well, he broke me lol :) We lost our baby at the age of 9. He was diagnosed with diabetes and severe arthritis in several places of his spine. He was such a trooper, we had to change his whole diet, he got insulin shots twice daily and he had to go to the vet weekly for glucose checks. He was such a good boy, he never seemed to mind, all he wanted to do was make us happy. It was quite expensive treating both diseases. But we did it, making him a promise that when he had enough, we would do the right thing for him. About 8 months into his treatments, he was afraid to go to sleep, he was fighting it. We finally got him to sleep on Mom's lap for an hour or so, he woke up screaming. It was time, he and I drove to the vet, he laid down on a soft fuzzy blanket, I held his big ol' head in my lap and looked into his eyes, telling him he was loved, he was a good boy, it was ok to sleep. I didn't cry because I knew if I did, he would want to help and be upset I was crying. I had to be strong for my boy. It was the hardest thing I ever had to do. This was my first experience doing this with a beloved pet. When it was over, I broke down, I can't get the image of him out of my mind, having to leave him there, knowing he would never again try to hog the bed. The grief has been overwhelming at times. He was only 9 years old, He went to the rainbow bridge on Sept 2, 2014. RIP buddy dog, you are loved and missed every day. This is one of my favorite pix of him, he loved the flowers.
