As this photo was taken, the armadillo was foraging and digging in the soil to try to find insects to eat. Because of how the armadillo looks for its food, it can disrupt the roots of plants in the areas it scavenges in. As it is mainly nocturnal, it was a shock to see this armadillo while on a hike.
