Insight about the shot or species
Found on every continent except Antarctica and Australia, the Black-crowned Night Heron is the most widespread heron in the world. Local distribution of this species is determined by suitable wetland habitat for foraging. In Texas, the largest concentrations of the species are found on the coast, with 80-90% of the breeding population concentrated in coastal areas.
This image was relatively easy to capture, as this juvenile heron was very curious of my camera. After circling me a few times though, it lost interest and walked away.
