Pet's Story
Champ came into our lives as part of the healing process for our son following our son's several medical procedures and then a major kidney surgery at the age of 11 in March 2019. We were grateful for the extended team at Cincinnati Children's to help get through a challenging time and hospital stay. This team included pet therapy dogs as well as a visit from the Cincinnati Police K-9 unit. We QUICKLY learned the healing qualities of dogs as well as the importance of community and support.

Champ senses feelings in a way that is hard to explain, and brought all of us through an emotional time. It was also during this time that we learned Champ's own story of being born into one of the country's worst puppy mills. He traveled from Nebraska to Ohio and was definitely meant to be with our family. Now that our son is healed, Champ enjoys anything and everything OUTDOORS with all of us (as you can see in this pic, covered in leaves)! He is awesome with a baseball or frisbee, and loves to take long walks. It's amazing to see the number of people who just smile when Champ walks by, and we're pretty sure he smiles right back at them. He is always up for a snuggle on the couch and knows when you just need some love. Our hope is to train him as a therapy dog and "give back" for all that we have received.

We are thrilled for this opportunity to support the UnitedHealthcare Children's Foundation and in a small way help children gain access to health-related services. We have experienced the importance of pediatric health services firsthand and know that this Foundation is truly making a difference. Champ would be excited to know he is helping to make a difference, too!
