Pet's Story
In 2009 the Curry family was blessed twice with their son and born just 1 week later their Chocolate Lab, Buddy. Buddy has traveled along with his Army family from California, to Hawaii, Indiana, Texas, and Georgia in his 11 years. The 2 boys grew up together never apart, doing everything together as brothers and best friends.
This year, 2020, cancer was found to have spread internally to Buddy's lungs and heart. The Curry family was devastated. Buddy, who had been their best friend, brother, protector through 4 deployments and overall just most loving soul, was given less than 6 months left to live.
The young Curry boy could not go an hour without breaking down into tears. Buddy was his only constant friend he had through all the years, moves, and goodbyes to friends and family, and now the most painful goodbye was lingering.
Witnessing this sadness was unbearable. CSM and Mrs. Curry asked their son if he would like to consider bringing a puppy home for both him and Buddy. At first instinct, he shouted no! No dog would ever replace Buddy! They explained to him that in many cases youth can bring the elderly love, peace, and comfort. Also, that Buddy would surely be worried who would take care of them as a family, but most especially his brother. If they brought home a puppy for Buddy and the family to love, teach, and bond with, Buddy could pass in peace, knowing his brother and family were taken care of. Also, that knowing that the puppy loved Buddy, that their son and the puppy could mourn Buddy together in knowing that they both loved him dearly. Never ever would it be replacing Buddy but be a light in his life that was left for us to remember and love him by.
A few weeks later Leo was adopted into the Curry family. Leo looks up to Buddy and is now his shadow. The loving and loyal boy, Buddy, and Leo and now all three brothers that do everything together. These memories of the Curry family will always be cherished. It is in all hopes that this story and photo can bring you warmth, love, and joy this 2020 holiday season. And also a reminder to cherish those you love and what is most meaningful in life.
