Pet's Story
Salvatore' was Registered and Certified as a Therapy Dog with Therapy Dog International ( TDI ) for 8 years, has since retired. He brings so much fun, love, laughs, and comfort to anyone who meets him including other canines. He has added so much value and has visited; Residential Homes, Hospitals, Hospice, Veterans, Numerous fund-raising walks, Schools, and the Library for Tail Waggin Tutor Program where children read to the dogs. We can't seem to go anywhere without someone stopping us to get a quick visit and some petting in with Salvatore, it's great! He's like a little magnet! He is my very best friend, and living with MS, he has helped me in ways I can't even put into words, so although retired now from TDI, he remains to help anyone and everyone who is in need, in a gathering even with family, he just seems to know who’s the next one that he should go to. Here's one story where I learned from him, and still do! We were on the Mid-Hudson Walkway, we had stopped for a rest and water, and I had given the command to down and stay, well few minutes later he got up and started to cross to the other side (no vehicles allowed) and I quickly called him back, gave the command again, well within few minutes, he did it again! He normally he is so obedient, I was taken back. I again, bought him back to the bench and gave the command again to down and stay. Well just then a woman approached us and said I noticed your little dog was trying to come over to us, I said I hope that didn't bother you, he's really very friendly, she said no, but I noticed he seemed that he was heading over to ( she said the name of the little girl) who looked about 5 years of age. She said, can you please allow him to go over there I want to see something, I want to see where he goes. So, I said to Salvatore' "free" which means command over. He got right up sure enough went over to the little girl and lied down in front of her. She got so excited bent down to hug and pet him. Well, I was told that they were there setting up for a fund raiser walk for that little girl as she is not well. I had to hold my tears in (as I am now, I can never tell this story without shedding a few) he knew! He knew, he knew and wanted to be by her. I cried on the way home. Well, from that day on I have listened to him, watched him, and at times yes, I do take his lead! Did I learn a valuable lesson that day? I certainly did! I could go on and on about him, so I will close with; I am so blessed to have the privilege of having Salvatore' as my Pal as we stroll through life together. Thank you for sharing in Our Story.
