Pet's Story
Four years ago, I walked into the humane society not really knowing what I was looking for. I just knew I wanted to give a dog a second chance. That’s when I met Remy. She was this tiny, scared little thing with big brown eyes, trembling in the corner. The first few weeks with Remy were challenging, to say the least. She was terrified of everything—loud noises, sudden movements, even the wind.
And then there were the stairs. I’ll never forget the first time I tried to get her to go down. She just froze. Every time I would take a step, she’d watch me from the top with those big, worried eyes, not daring to follow. But eventually, after weeks of gentle encouragement, she finally took that first step.
One of the best things about Remy is how much she’s grown in her trust of people. When I come home after a long day, she’s practically bouncing off the walls with excitement. Her tail goes wild, and she has this adorable habit of baring her teeth. It’s the goofiest grin that I can’t help but laugh at every time.
But Remy’s love isn’t just reserved for me. She’s made some very unexpected friends along the way—mainly the cats.
There’s one thing she’s definitely not good at—being a guard dog. If someone were to break into the house, they’d probably get a warm welcome and a belly rub. I always joke that the burglars would leave with a new best friend, and I’m sure that’s exactly how Remy would want it.
Seeing how far she’s come is one of the most rewarding things in my life. From a scared little dog who wouldn’t even go down the stairs, to this happy, loving, playful soul who greets everyone like they’re her long-lost friend—Remy’s transformation has been nothing short of amazing. She’s proof that with patience, love, and a little time, you can heal even the most broken hearts.
