After being found by the Athens Humane Society last September, Archie’s owner said they’d pick him up from the shelter, but never did. Thankfully, some amazing students gave him lots of love and support during the fall semester, then we fostered him over the winter. We spent many months working on his separation anxiety and trying to heal his “happy tail” (he wags so hard sometimes that his tail bleeds), but he still had little adoption interest. Once spring arrived, we couldn’t bear the thought of him leaving and realized Archie was already home. His success is the result of a strong community effort - FOSD volunteers, BARC trainers, Athens Veterinary staff, and OU students. Archie is a true underdog; everyone was rooting for him, and he eventually triumphed. His favorite stuffed animal is still the one he picked out at the shelter on Christmas Day - Sully from MonstersInc.
