Hi!

My name is Mateo and I am a greyhound. I grew up at a racetrack in West Virginia where the only people I knew were the people who made money from my races. I wasn’t the best runner, but I loved running with the other hounds under the lights. In my last race, I won first place—then I broke a toe on my back foot and I had to stop racing. My toe was amputated.

Luckily, a loving family brought me home. That was two years ago. They helped my foot get better. And now I run just for fun.

Every year thousands of greyhounds like me are euthanized because they can no longer race. I would like to be a Spokesanimal because I believe every animal—especially the broken ones who have been pushed aside by other people—should have a chance to know what love is all about.
