My dog is the Ultimate Underdog...
When I first met Rexie-pexie, he was my neglected nextdoor neighbor dog. He lived in the garage with the door half open. He shared his food with the rats and the birds. Sometimes he had food and fresh water, but I often fed him under the fence or jumped the fence to administer skin care. In extremely cold weather, the neighbors would only bring him in the house if I asked them to. When I moved away, I offered to take him with me but the neighbors refused. I tried to get him help, but he "looked okay", so nobody could do anything. Fast forward a year and he no longer looked okay. His eye was swollen and cloudy and he could no longer see out of it. With the help of Dog Aide and Michigan Humane, he was finally rescued. Michigan Humane removed his eye, started heartworm treatment, and otherwise patched him up. Finally, he came home with me, an 80-pound puppy dog with zero training!
My dog is amazing because...
Well, confidence was never Rexie-pexie's challenge, that's for sure! Rexie loved all people and all animals, and he never doubted that his affections would be returned. He was often described as a ham or a clown. Friendly, affectionate, and eager to please, he learned basic commands, how to walk on a leash like a gentleman, and how to play without destroying you. Somehow, he was magically potty trained from the start and would rather die than go potty in the house. He was even able to go to daycare and socialize with other dogs, even though he had had no interaction with other dogs since he was a puppy. Rexie-pexie went over the rainbow bridge about a year ago, after making everybody laugh and enjoying cuddles, couches, peanut butter Kongs, tug-o-war, and laying in the grass for the remainder of his days.
