Jellybean is a pitbull mix rescue that I took in from a friend 2 years ago. I was going to rehab her and then adopt her out to a good family. Yet, When I got her she weighed only a mere 4lbs and had a skin infection covering most of her body. Her belly was filled with worms. When taking her to the vet they estimated her to be only 6 weeks old. She was put on a vigorous course of antibiotics, skin creams, and dewormer. At her follow up appointment two weeks later the worms had all come out and she weighed in at only 2 pounds 5 ounces. The vet was shocked what she had been through and we weren't sure how well she could adjust. With her belly being the size it was my children said it looked like an Easter egg and inside those are jellybeans and that is how her name came about. Over the next few months we worked to develop her temperament and also her weight. By 6 months she was a solid 30 pounds. She had become a part of my family. Jellybean would spend the remainder of her life with us. She would break all stereotypes attached to her breed and even prove my own mother wrong, and that pitties at heart are true lovers and kind animals. Jellybean is now a nice 65 pound and spends her nights curled up next to my daughter and when the new baby came home she instantly became her protector as well. She is aware of the baby never a licks or jumps on her. When the baby cries in her crib jellybean will bark and alert us to the baby. I thought by me saving her I was saving her from a life that could've ended very poorly given her state at the time and her breed. But in reality she saved me and my children and showed us a love that only she could provide.
